Angry vandal uses spray paint in pothole protest

Posted: Updated:
SLOATSBURG -

Someone who is apparently fed up with road construction in Rockland County has spray painted graffiti on the Orange Turnpike.

In red and white spray paint, the graffiti says, "Danger Metra can't pave (expletive.)"

It's located on top of Route 17 near Park Avenue in Sloatsburg.

Ramapo police say they were made aware of the incident on Sunday and are now investigating, and checking to see if there are any security cameras in the area. Officials say there has been ongoing overnight construction on the stretch of roadway and residents are fed up.

News 12 is told crews have been working to repave the road for nearly two years, but it's still in rough shape. Police say they've been receiving countless complaints about potholes and flat tires.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ramapo Police Department at 845-357-2400. They say the DOT has been made aware of the graffiti, and it plans to cover it over.
