Groundbreaking held for Mount Vernon high rise

A groundbreaking was held in Mount Vernon Wednesday for a $100 million state-of-the-art project that will offer 189 units of affordable housing units.
The developer of the 17-story 22 South West St. says it’s one the largest of its kind in Westchester.

Longtime residents say they are looking forward to the new life and energy the development will bring to the city.
“Mount Vernon is on the move and I hope they find the prosperity they need because maybe my taxes will go down,” says antique shop owner Lynn Bonner.

Crews should be finished with construction in 18 months, and the new building is expected to open in early 2020.
