Newburgh schools’ free lunch program extends into summer

NEWBURGH -

The Newburgh School District is offering free meals to children this summer thanks to money from a federal grant.

The district says the program helps low-income families who rely on free school lunches during the academic year.

"It might be the difference between going to work, or having gas to go to work or paying rent on time for the month," says Caitlin Lazarski, the district's food service director.

The district will serve breakfast and lunch to kids under 18 at nine locations around the city.
