Business Briefs: Netflix, ‘Ant-man and the Wasp,’ Mark Zuckerberg
Posted: Updated:Netflix is betting big on content. The Economist projects the streaming site will spend up to $13 billion to develop original programming this year, $5 billion more than in 2017.
That number puts Netflix’s original content budget well above both HBO and CBS. The company's dedication to content is helping attract talent like Shonda Rhimes and David Letterman, according to Cheddar.
It's also a big summer for super heroes. “Ant-man and the Wasp” took in more than $76 million in its opening weekend, far surpassing that of the original film. This is Marvel's third box office hit this year, along with “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Black Panther.” “Ant-man and the Wasp” is the 20th Marvel title to hit No.1 in the past 10 years.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now officially the third richest person in the world, bumping Warren Buffett to fourth. The 34-year-old's net worth is now $81.6 billion. Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Microsoft’s Bill Gates are No.1 and 2, marking the first time ever that the top three richest people in the world have been from the tech world.
