An off-duty police officer in Orange County saved an elderly couple from their burning car earlier this week.
Moments before the car burst into flames, Officer Brian Kelly says he saw that the couple’s car was filled with smoke. He says he got the couple’s attention and pulled them to safety.
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon on Route 17 in Goshen.
"I opened her door up and pulled her out and I could see flames coming from up underneath the dashboard. So I know once it gets through the firewall of the car, it's seconds before the car rest of the car catches on fire," said Kelly.
Police say the couple was on their way to work in Rockland County.
The couple drives seven hours roundtrip each day.
