The city’s Commission on Human Rights’ Bias Response Team was spreading a message of peace and tolerance in Bay Ridge Friday in response to a viral video posted last week.

The incident occurred on a bus from Bay Ridge to Staten Island, where a woman wearing a hijab was verbally attacked by another passenger.

In the video, the woman wearing the hijab remains quiet while another woman makes anti-Muslim remarks and threatens to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The human rights group hopes its “Day of Visibility” helps people from the community feel safe. They were in front of the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge Friday, passing out flyers and encouraging people to file complaints if they experience bias harassment.

The Bias Response Team will also be holding bystander intervention training next week, where people will learn what do to when they witness someone being discriminated against.
