WHITE PLAINS -

Some business owners in White Plains fear the closing of Walmart will impact their stores.

The Walmart in White Plains has been a fixture in the area for more than a decade. The store had many supporters and some detractors who felt it hurt some of the mom-and-pop shops. However, some business owners in the area say they are sad to see the store close.

Peter Palushi, the owner of the Gentelman's Barber Spa located across the street from Walmart, says it's sad to see it go. Palushi says in the three years since he's had the barbershop, Walmart has helped generate foot traffic for his business.

"I think it's going to affect the area," says Palushi. "Not sure what they are building there, but Walmart is needed."

Walmart is set to close August 10, and business owners say they hope another big box retailer moves in to the area.
