Sen. Mayer ready to end deal with MGM Resorts over Las Vegas lawsuit

State Sen. Shelley Mayer says she is ready to pull out of a deal with MGM Resorts after the company filed a lawsuit against victims of the Las Vegas shooting.
MGM Resorts had put in a bid to purchase the Empire City Casino in Yonkers. However, it still needs state approval before anything can move forward.
Fifty-nine people, including the gunman, were killed after Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel onto a crowd of more than 22,000 below at a country music festival. MGM Resorts is now countersuing many of the victims.
"That's not the way that we deal with that kind of pain in our legal system," Mayer says.
A spokesperson for MGM says, "The filing for declaratory relief is, unfortunately, a necessary step in a very complex litigation process. It will allow all parties to resolve these cases quickly, fairly and in an orderly fashion. We stand ready to meet with appropriate state officials to explain our position."
News 12 has reached out to the Empire City Casino, but they declined to comment.
