Lawyers: DEC can conduct soil testing on Memorial Field

Posted: Updated:
MOUNT VERNON -

Lawyers for the Mount Vernon mayor and city council were back in court today in their ongoing legal battle over control of Memorial Field.

All sides agreed that the state DEC could conduct testing of the soil under the tennis courts next week.

The DEC is concerned some of the soil may be contaminated.

City officials also set a date to meet with County Executive George Latimer next week to discuss the future of the facility.

The county has an agreement with the city to be the lead on the project moving forward.
