High school students got hands-on experience in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics as part of a seven-week summer camp.
New York University Tandon School of Engineering's Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering, or ARISE, program is tailored for those with little or no access to STEM programs at their schools.
The application process includes essays and interviews, and it saw a record number of applicants this summer. There were 470 applicants for 56 slots in just over a couple dozen labs.
Students also got practical knowledge of research by working with graduate or post-doctoral mentors.
This Friday, students will present their research to family members and faculty at a mini-conference.
