NYC Parks Dept. offers after-school program

The New York City Parks Department is trying to help working parents with a new option for after-school care.
Kids ages 6 to 13 are invited to the department's after-school program at Saint James Recreation Center in the Bronx.
The free, daily sessions are from 3 to 6 p.m. and put kids in the care of a qualified staff who help them with everything from homework to fitness.
A lot of this year's activities focus on STEAM -- science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
The program also plans to take field trips, with kids from one borough having the chance to go to another.
Each recreation center accepts around 35 kids on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a program is full or is too much of a long-term commitment, parents can also register for drop-in programs that happen throughout the year.
