Hudson Valley school districts welcome new superintendents

A number of new superintendents are joining school districts around the Hudson Valley as students get ready for the first day of class this week.
Seasoned educator Dr. David Mauricio is joining the Peekskill City School District with the goal of making sure families are focused on supporting the education process.
Joining the nearby Mount Pleasant Central School District is Dr. Kurtis Kotes, who says his biggest challenge will be to create financial sustainability in the district.
“We all have to live within the tax cap, which is a responsible approach within our taxpaying community,” he says. “We also want to work within those confines to make sure the programs we're planning moving forward are meaningful and reflect what the community wants to see in their schools as well.”
In the Valhalla Union Free School District, Dr. Karen Geelan is gearing up for her second year. Geelan says that the district is planning to continue a student-centered approach with a renewed focus on the learner and learning.
From enhancing school safety to promoting emotional wellness, leaders say they're ready to build new relationships with their staff and students.
