White Plains building workers union authorizes strike

More than 1,000 Hudson Valley residential building workers voted to authorize a strike just weeks before their contract expires.
A total of 1,400 union members in White Plains, represented by 32BJ, voted to authorize a strike before the Sept. 30 expiration date.
The workers include superintendents, porters and door people in residential buildings.
The workers say they are looking for a fair contract that will keep their health care and retirement benefits intact. They would also like a cost of living raise.
This union hasn't been on strike in more than 30 years.
