A supportive housing complex in the Bronx opened Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Officials cut the ribbon at the Melrose Commons Residence at 425 E. 161st St. 

The building is home to permanent supportive housing for 58 formerly chronically homeless adults with mental illness.

The development opened by the nonprofit group The Bridge helps provide supportive housing and mental health services.

They say on-site case management services and programming are included in the Melrose Commons Residence.

Residents say they are happy to become more independent in a place they can call home.
