Teen murder suspect appears in Bronx court

A Bronx teenager accused of fatally shooting a high school student in June stood before a judge on Friday.
Julius Romero, 16, is charged with murder, manslaughter and weapons possession in connection with the death of 17-year-old Vlana Roberts. The judge denied News 12's request to film the court appearance because of the defendant's age.
Police say Romero fired several shots into a group of people at the corner of East 181st Street and Vyse Avenue, striking Roberts, who they say was an innocent bystander.
Family members say Roberts was looking forward to playing basketball during her senior year of high school.
Authorities caught Romero in Florida using cellphone records and extradited him to New York. He's due back in court Oct. 1.
