Woman discovers urn containing ashes on Massapequa beach

MASSAPEQUA -

A woman says she discovered an urn containing human ashes while cleaning up a beach in Massapequa.

Anita Bloomfield says the urn washed up on the sand at the end of Alhambra Road. Inside the urn was a bag of ashes.

"I tell you when I found that…I felt like spirits were just screaming, ‘There's something going on here,’" she says.

Bloomfield says she called police, and used the name on the urn to track down a relative of the deceased. She says the woman's husband had asked a friend to scatter his wife's ashes off Jones Beach earlier this year.

Police are looking into the matter.
