Syosset bans residential street parking for LIRR commuters
The parking problems for commuters who use the Syosset train station are about to get worse after the town of Oyster Bay banned parking on residential streets in the area.
Last year, the town removed some “No Parking” signs in the residential area in an effort to alleviate the crowded parking lots at the Syosset Long Island Rail Road station.
The town decided at a meeting Tuesday night to put the removed signs back into place.
Residents told News 12 that crowded streets caused safety issues regarding children in the area and the accessibility of emergency service vehicles. They said they were relieved that the issue was resolved.
At the train station, commuter Bijan Fathi says it’s going to make life more difficult for LIRR riders.
"I used to drive, but I had a hard time parking on the street. That's why I take a bicycle," he says.
Some train riders are disappointed there are fewer places to park now.
News 12 did not immediately hear back from the Town of Oyster Bay for comment.
