Nassau community safety forum held at Hofstra University

Hundreds gathered at Hofstra University Tuesday night for a forum about Nassau County school safety.
Some covered topics included dealing with active shooter situations, cyberbullying and the war on opioid abuse.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder were in attendance.
Ryder began the forum by asking attendees to take a pledge to protect the county's children.
"Nassau County has a very safe community, very safe schools, but it only takes one kid to act out. So we need to engage the community, we need to stay focused and if they hear something, see something, say something," said Ryder.
Drug treatment experts provided parents with tips to identify if their children are using drugs.
Ryder says he hopes to make the school safety forum an annual event.
