Town supervisor admits to illegally collecting unemployment benefits

CHESTER -

Chester's town supervisor has admitted to illegally collecting nearly $6,000 in unemployment benefits.

Prosecutors say Town Supervisor Alex Jamieson, 54,  was collecting the unemployment benefits while working as an elected official.

As part of his plea agreement he will have to resign and to pay back about $5,700 to the state.

Last week, the Anti-Defamation League called on the AG's office to investigate report in the Times Herald-Record where Jamieson claims the Town bought a local arts center to "keep the Hasidic out."

Jamieson says he was misquoted but the paper has said stands by its reporting.
