Rockland-bound Mario Cuomo Bridge traffic to shift FridayPosted: Updated:
Rockland County-bound traffic is set to shift onto the other side of the median on the Mario Cuomo Bridge this week.
Traffic will flip on to the other side of the concrete barrier at 8 p.m. Friday night, weather permitting.
The reason for the flip is because Tappan Zee Constructors will start working on the bridge's bicycle and pedestrian path.
The 3.1-mile path will also include six overlooks that feature views of the Hudson River.
Officials say the $3.9 billion bridge project is nearing completion. Earlier this month, Westchester-bound traffic was moved onto the eastbound span. A dedicated bus lane is expected to open on that span next month.
Crews say the pedestrian path is expected to open next year.
