School 15 cleared for occupancy after mold issuesPosted: Updated:
School officials announced Thursday that School 15 in Yonkers has been cleared for re-occupancy after black mold was discovered two weeks ago, but will remain closed for other renovations.
Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada discussed the progress that's been made in cleaning up the school at a meeting Thursday evening. He says the upgrades, which include a new roof, are on schedule.
"Every nook and cranny of that building has been cleaned up," says Dr. Quezeda.
The roof repair cost the district almost $1 million. That money is coming from the district's capital funding.
Students are currently attending class at St. Bartholomew and won't be able to return to School 15 for some time, although Quezada says parts of the building will be ready.
Quezada and the mayor are urging parents to lobby lawmakers for more school funding from Albany to help fix schools.
