Driver in deadly North Bellport dirt bike chase sentenced

A Mastic Beach man was sentenced Tuesday to 3 ½ to 10 ½ years in prison for fatally striking two men riding on a dirt bike he believed had been stolen from his brother.
Christopher Bouchard pleaded guilty in August to manslaughter charges.
In June 2017, Bouchard chased and rear-ended the bike with his Honda Odyssey – killing 19-year-old Shirley resident Keenan King and 20-year-old North Bellport resident Anthony Holmes-Garriques.
The crash happened on Montauk Highway near Doane Avenue in Bellport.
Family members of the two victims said they agreed to the plea deal only because they wanted to be sure Bouchard would serve prison time.
Bouchard apologized in court, saying he never meant to hurt the men.
"I think about that day every day and I wish I could take it back," he said.
Judge Fernando Camacho had some harsh words for Bouchard, telling him that his actions that day were not only criminal and reckless, but heartless.
“How do you compare the value of human life? Two young lives to a bike...a chunk of steel and rubber," said the judge.
