A woman is accused of knocking down a volunteer parking attendant, biting a police officer and resisting arrest after she refused to pay a $10 parking fee at the Oyster Festival over the weekend.
Police say 24-year-old Molly Dutrow is facing a slew of charges in connection to the incident in Oyster Bay.
The incident began around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, when police say Dutrow refused to pay the parking fee and then took off in her car. In the process, they say she knocked down a volunteer parking attendant, causing an injury to the woman's leg.
When police caught up to Dutrow a short time later, they say she became violent.
"She resisted arrest by flailing her arms and biting an officer," says Detective Vincent Garcia. "They were finally able to gain control of her."
Both the police officer and the parking attendant suffered minor injuries.
Police say a subsequent investigation revealed that Dutrow had stolen more than $1,000 worth of groceries last year on several different occasions. They say she also cashed someone else's paycheck at a local supermarket last March.
And she had other run-ins with the law. According to court records, Dutrow pleaded guilty in 2013 to two counts of petit larceny, unlawful possession of a personal ID and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
A woman who left the courtroom after Dutrow's arraignment in tears Monday declined to comment on the latest charges.
Dutrow is due back in court Oct. 17.
