A Mount Vernon police sergeant is facing disciplinary action after allegations of sexual misconduct were made by a fellow officer, sources say.
News 12 has learned the sergeant, who also served for more than 10 years in the Marines, was promoted in January. Now, his status in the police department may be in jeopardy.
It's unclear what action is being taken.
The city's corporation counsel told News 12 in a statement, "The city of Mount Vernon cannot confirm details, as any confirmation would breach confidentiality and violate the rights of both the accuser and the accused. Any reports of sexual harassment received by the city are taken very seriously, investigated promptly and thoroughly and held absolutely confidential until the matter is resolved."
Sources say the allegations were made by a female officer and include possible groping.
The sergeant has been on the force since December 2004.
No official comments have been made other than the city's legal statement.
