The man accused of killing his girlfriend Nidia Gonzalez and stabbing her friend Brenda Castellano in February 2017 took the stand.
Oscar Hernandez laid out what happened the night his girlfriend was slain and her friend nearly killed. Hernandez says he never stabbed anyone and that it was the two girls who hurt each other.
Hernandez says Gonzalez came home with her friend Brenda Castellano from a bar on Feb. 24, 2017. He testified the two were drunk and got into an argument that ended in a stabbing. He says he managed to get the knife away from his wife and then Castellano attacked him.
Hernandez says when he realized both women weren't moving, he decided to grab his daughter and take her out of the apartment.
Police, however, believe Hernandez went into a jealous rage that night because his girlfriend was having an affair.
On cross-examination, the prosecutor held up the two knives found at the crime scene. When asked if he used the knives that night Hernandez said never.
Hernandez was the sole witness for the defense. Closing arguments are set for Thursday.
