State Sen. Carlucci declares victory in re-election bidPosted: Updated:
Democratic incumbent Sen. David Carlucci declared victory in the 38th Senate District over former Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef.
Sen. Carlucci has spent the last eight years in the state Senate seat. The district includes most of Rockland County and some of Westchester County.
Since taking office in 2010, Carlucci says he has passed more than 100 pieces of legislation. He is a former member of the Independent Democratic Conference - a group of Democrats that often voted with Republicans.
Carlucci is now pledging his allegiance to the Democratic Party. He says he feels good about his chances and is already planning his term.
"There are so many issues that I'm working on, but the top one is to fully fund our school aid,” he told News 12. “We’ve got to make sure educating our children doesn't solely rely on the property taxpayer.”
