A Newburgh man is in the Dutchess County Jail for allegedly possessing heroin and impersonating a police officer.

State police say they arrested James Hayes, 48, on Saturday after a traffic stop on I-84 in Fishkill.

Officials say a K9 officer helped sniff out more than 53 grams of heroin in Hayes' car as he tried to pose as an officer.

Hayes is being held in Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
