NEW CITY -

The Rockland County District Attorney is claiming a big victory.

Thomas Zugibe says he is one of the state Supreme Court judges elected in the 9th Judicial District, which covers Rockland and Westchester counties.

Zugibe has served as the Rockland DA for the past 11 years.

He thanked his supporters in Blauvelt last night. "I assure all of you that I will bring the same passion and commitment to the supreme court that I did [in] any prior endeavor, especially the DA's office. I'm going to work every day to earn your trust and respect."

Zugibe has one year left in his term as District Attorney, but he will be wearing a judge's robe in January. Either he or the governor will appoint an interim DA.
