Police have charged a 19-year-old with sexually assaulting a teenage girl over the weekend in Huntington.
Police say 19-year-old Daniel Adum was "on the prowl" Saturday night into Sunday morning in Huntington. Around 1:15 a.m., they say he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl who just happened to walk by with her friend near Main Street.
The victim and her friend were dropped off in a parking lot off West Neck Road, police say, and then headed off toward Main Street, where they first encountered the suspect.
"One of the friends noticed that he had exposed himself, she said, 'We need to pick up the pace and get away from him,'" says Suffolk Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart.
The attack happened when the girls turned onto the more deserted Prospect Street.
Police say both the assault and the suspect's easily identifiable car -- a white Honda Civic with a black racing stripe -- were caught on the town's many surveillance cameras.
Hart says the suspect was arrested less than 48 hours after the incident, when a detective working the case spotted Adum's car on Route 110.
Police say Adum has never been arrested before and is not suspected in other sex assaults. He was held on $150,000 bail at his arraignment.
