Commuters traveling from Elmsford to White Plains are a lot happier than they were Thursday night.

Route 119 was at a crawl last night as the height of the snowstorm forced drivers to either wait hours to get home or abandon their cars.

"I hitchhiked--it was a nightmare," says Don Rosenberg, of Hartsdale, who was just one of many who ended up abandoning his car.

According to the White Plains Department of Public Works, a plan was in place for the storm and crews pre-treated the roads based on original reports that showed the temperature was supposed to rise and turn the snow into rain. Instead, it stayed cold and the snow just kept coming.

Crews worked through the night to clear the roads, but there were problems from Thursday night. Southbound I-95 to Mamaroneck was still stopped for close to an hour during the morning rush.

Now that temperatures have risen, the evening commute should be back to normal.
