AAA estimated that more than 54 million Americans would head out on the roads this Thanksgiving holiday – the largest travel day on record since 2005.
Some of the most congested roadways will be the Belt Parkway westbound and the Hutchinson River Parkway going toward the Merritt Parkway between 3-6 p.m. Thursday. Estimated speeds will be below 20 mph.
AAA says it’s better to travel Thanksgiving morning in order to avoid the traffic mess.
The agency says commuters should make sure their vehicles are in good shape before hitting the road. AAA expects about 360,000 breakdowns in the metropolitan area this year.
