CORTLANDT -

The Croton-on-Hudson man charged with impersonating a police officer appeared in court Thursday.

Police say Marcelo Abila knocked on the victim's door in Cortlandt, claimed to be a police officer and demanded money.

An investigation showed the 41-year-old wore an NYPD baseball cap. The victim refused to hand over money and called police.

Abila was released on bail and is due back in court next month.
