Croton-on-Hudson man charged with impersonating NYPD officer

A fire that started in a third-floor apartment at the Tallman Towers in Nyack forced tenants to evacuate Thursday.
First responders got called to the seven-story building on South Broadway around 10 a.m. Firefighters from Nyack, Piermont and West Nyack were on the scene to put the flames out.
The fire broke out in the kitchen of one of the apartments. No one was injured.
"The fire was contained to the one apartment, however, we have a lot of people who are displaced right now," says Brian Knecht, deputy chief of the Nyack Fire Department.
Six apartments have been deemed uninhabitable due to heavy smoke and water damage. The elevator is also out of service, which is a problem for several elderly and disabled tenants.
A nearby YMCA and the Red Cross are helping families who have been displaced.
