A police officer was shot while responding to a domestic violence call on Staten Island that left the suspect dead.
The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday on Bridge Court near Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island.
According to police Commissioner James O’Neill, the suspect came at police with a long blade. They ordered him to drop the weapon and when he refused they hit him with a stun gun. When that did not stop him, officers opened fire, killing the man.
One of the officers was also struck in the exchange and rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
He is expected to survive.
