Fire chief: Early morning fire destroys Jersey City home

A fire tore through a Jersey City home early Tuesday morning, displacing the family who lived there.
Firefighters received a call around 5:30 a.m. that flames were shooting out of the first and second floors of a house on Wegman Parkway.
Jersey City Fire Chief Steven McGill says around five people, including a retired firefighter, lived in the home and were able to get out on their own.
He says the homeowner believes the fire may have started in the kitchen.
McGill says flames were knocked down quickly, so no other buildings were damaged and no one was injured.
Officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
