Car crashes into Woodbury condo, trapping residents

Police say a car crashed into a unit at the Woodbury Gardens condominium complex.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. inside the complex, located just off of Jericho Turnpike. First responders say a Mercedes sedan crashed into a downstairs unit.
Don Epstein, a board member of the complex, says he believes the driver hit the gas instead of the brakes, sending the car into the unit. It went through the living room into the kitchen.
No injuries were reported.
Syosset fire officials say four people were trapped in the unit because of its dislodged front door. Firefighters got everyone out safely.
Ellen Golann, condo board president, says the residents of the unit are family members.
"They were inside the apartment," says Golann. "Both of them were in the apartment. Lucky she was in the back of the apartment when the car went into the kitchen through the living room and into the kitchen."
The exact cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Crews have now secured the structure and are boarding it up. News 12 is told it may be at least a week or more before the residents of the downstairs apartment can return home.
