Grand opening held for new center to help prevent homelessness

A new center with a mission to prevent homelessness opened in Allerton Tuesday.
The Homebase Center on Burke Avenue is the fourth Bronx location for the Help Prevention Network, which offers several programs to fight homelessness.
The center is staffed with more than 100 employees who specialize in programs designed to serve the needs of at risk residents. One of the populations the center focuses on are veterans.
City officials say the homeless population is dropping because of intervention programs like the center that helps residents from losing their homes.
