Police say a gun-wielding suspect who shot a man in the arm was then shot in the torso by police officers Wednesday night in Wakefield.
The incident occurred at East 241st Street and White Plains Road just before 8 p.m.
Police say two plainclothes officers were canvassing the area when they heard three to five gunshots. They then saw a male subject, identified as 24-year-old Justin Roberts, using a weapon on White Plains Road between Saint Ouen Street and Cranford Avenue.
The officers then told Roberts to drop his weapon, but instead Roberts pointed it at them, police said. One of the officers then fired a round that hit the suspect in the torso.
Police say Roberts then fled on foot from down White Plains Road and then collapsed on Cranford Avenue. He was apprehended and taken to NYC Health and Hospitals + Jacobi. Police say Robert’s firearm, a silver revolver, was recovered next to him.
Authorities say Roberts’ victim had been shot in the arm after the two got into an altercation at a nearby grocery store.
Police tell News 12 that Roberts is in stable condition, and the victim remains in critical condition.
