‘Pick up the weights’: Bodybuilder offers advice on improving strength

The new year is around the corner and for many physical change is a high priority.
Ashley Kern is a personal trainer and teacher who also competes in bodybuilding competitions.
Her advice to women who want to improve their bodies in 2019 is to pick up the weights.
"Women are so afraid to pick my weights. Like pick up weights and pick up the heaviest that you can,” says Kern.
She also says to inquire about possibly hiring professional help.
"First of all, hire someone to help you because you can't do it all on your own,” says Kern. "Hire someone to give you guidance. You can't see yourself the way that someone else can look at you and see you because you still see what's wrong."
Kern has competed in bodybuilding competitions a handful of times. She says becoming a bodybuilder is not as glamorous as people may think, but it’s all worth it.
"I like to be strong. I like to feel tough. For the most part women compliment me. They tell me they wished they looked like me,” says Kern.
