A Rockland County community expects to save nearly a half million dollars over the next decade by sharing town vehicles.
Ramapo has 254 vehicles in their fleet including pick-up trucks and police cars. Recently, officials say more than 70 of those vehicles needed to be replaced.
The town is now leasing 64 new vehicles and sharing them to save money. "The fleet management arrangement we have with the leasing company provides for lower cost. We project savings in the range of approximately $500,000 over the next 10 years," says Ramapo Town Supervisor
Michael Specht.
Ramapo says the new vehicles will also increase fuel efficiency by 20 to 40 percent.
