Police: Man recorded stealing life-size nutcracker statue turns himself in

Posted: Updated:
MORRISTOWN -

A man caught on surveillance camera stealing a 6-foot-tall nutcracker statue from the Morristown Green has surrendered to police.

Morristown police say that the theft happened around 1 a.m. Friday. In the video, the suspect appears to loosen the bottom of the statue and then walks away with it. But police say that he must have had a change of heart and showed up to the police station around 10:30 a.m. with the statue in tow.

“We want to thank the community and all of our partners in the community who provided a lot of tips and maybe encouraged this gentlemen to turn himself in,” says Morristown Public Safety Director Michael Corcoran.

The man’s identity was not released.
