Volunteers get rid of grime in an effort to lessen crime in Newburgh

Volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God braved the wet weather and rain Sunday to help clean up Newburgh - in an effort to reduce crime.
It's all part of Reduce Crime Together, a worldwide movement in which volunteers hold cleanups in over 7,000 different cities. They say cleaning up the environment has led to cleaning up crime.
"It's been shown in various studies if the environment is cleaner, then there is less crime inside of the area," said one volunteer.
The group focused on the area of City Terrace, Johnston Street, and Lander Street off Broadway, which included a much-needed cleanup of a makeshift basketball court.
