Police: Thieves steal valuables from cars in Pearl River

Posted: Updated:
PEARL RIVER -

Some Pearl River residents woke up to find their belongings stolen from their unlocked cars overnight, police say.

One car, whose keys were left inside, was stolen right off the property.

It happened early Monday morning near South Magnolia Street and Rizzio Circle.

Police are asking residents with security cameras to check their footage to help identify the thieves.

"It's pretty sad and disappointing that the day before Christmas an incident like this is happening in our neighborhood,” says neighbor Donald Van Hook. “And I've been here for over thirty years and we've never had an incident like this before."

Police are advising the public to prevent this type of crime by removing valuables from cars, locking cars and safeguarding keys.
