GREENBURGH -

Greenburgh police are investigating a possible homicide after a body was found behind a building Friday evening.

Investigators say the body was found just before 6 p.m. behind a building that houses Varvaro's Deli and some apartments on Russell Street and Aqueduct Road.

The intersection is a high-traffic area, with businesses and many passers-by.

One witness said he saw the body and attempted to see if the person was still alive.

"I was walking like a normal night, there were a couple of people moving away and I see somebody lying down," says the witness, who did not want to be identified. "I thought he was drunk and fell and hit his head or something. I see blood coming out, I had to walk over and I went over and I kicked him, reached for his pulse...nothing...body was cold. Done."

The man has not yet been identified.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police.
