The town of Ramapo asked the public to weigh in on the future of several underused and vacant properties at a public meeting Monday evening.

Officials say a quarry site in Suffern is a popular place for trespassers in the summer.

"We have people who would trespass and swim, and the police would have to be called. It's what we call an attractive nuisance,” says Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht.

Before making any quick decisions, the town asked the public for input about what to do with it. 

Specht recently formed the "Town Asset Review Committee" also known as TARC. It consists of several town employees, and is currently reviewing all of Ramapo's 190 properties.

The quarry and four others are now up for discussion.

Specht says the group listened to what the public had to say, but noted that decisions ultimately lie with the Town Board.

The town says the site of the quarry is zoned for light industrial/commercial use, not multifamily housing.
