MIDDLETOWN -

A fugitive wanted for murder in Louisiana has been captured in Orange County.

Police say the suspect and the woman he was with had been on the run for nearly a week and evaded capture after a police chase in New Jersey.

Louisiana murder suspect Kristan Broussard, 33, said nothing Wednesday while handcuffed and in New York State Police custody as he was escorted into Troop F in Middletown.

Broussard is accused of fatally shooting Richard Southern in New Iberia, Louisiana, on Friday after a reported argument.

He had been on the run with his parolee girlfriend, 30-year-old Ursula Bourque, who authorities say was not involved in the murder.

The two were captured at a Mount Hope pizzeria Wednesday afternoon with a stolen, loaded handgun after police received a tip of a suspicious couple looking into area cars.

"At 12:40 p.m. today The fugitives were located at the Pizza Mania on state Route 211 in Mount Hope, New York, by a police officer from the town of Mount Hope Police Department. The two fugitives were taken into custody by the police officer without incident. And they were transported to the New York State Police barracks here in Middletown,” said New York State Police Capt. Brian Shortall.

Authorities say the couple evaded capture in New Jersey after a police chase there that resulted in a car crash. They say the pair took a taxi to a Middletown residence affiliated to Ursula Bourque before walking to Mount Hope, where they were apprehended

Both are now facing several charges and will be held in Orange County Jail until they are sent back to Louisiana.
