A Rockland elementary school teacher has won millions in a lawsuit against a local blogger.

The teacher alleged that the blogger defamed and bullied her in several online posts - and the jury agreed.

The state Supreme Court jury awarded $4 million to Meredith Trussell-Slutsky in the libel/ defamation suit against Carol McIlmurray, the creator of

The Clarkstown elementary school teacher claims Mcllmurray wrote harmful and humiliating statements about her on her blog and social media accounts back in 2017.

"The worst thing that a woman could be called was in these blogs. It was vile, humiliating, embarrassing and it went on for six months,” says Trussell-Slutsky’s attorney Michael Feldman.

Feldman won't say what led to the attack, but says her words reached thousands.

He says the blog had a readership of 5,000 to 10,000 people and then it was piggybacked onto the Clarkstown community page.

On Friday, the jury sided with Trussell-Slutsky, making McIlmurray responsible to pay the teacher $500,000 in compensatory damages and $3.5 million in punitive damages.

The libel amount is possibly one of the largest of its kind in Hudson Valley history.

Feldman says his client brought the case not just for a monetary award, but also to get her reputation back and to hold the writer accountable for the slander and the libel.

The $4 million judgment has to now be filed with the court before the judge can sign.
