Commuters might have the ability to catch a train from Westchester directly to Penn Station sometime in the near future.

The MTA announced Tuesday that it finally reached a deal with Amtrak to run some Metro-North trains down Amtrak's eastern line. That line crosses over and ends up on the west side of New York City in Penn Station.

Known as the Penn Station Access Project, it would allow New Haven trains to diverge at New Rochelle and take Amtrak's line, giving Sound Shore and Connecticut commuters the option of either train to Grand Central or Penn Station.

The project will also add four new stations in the Bronx.

The ideas were reportedly implemented by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who recently swooped into negotiations to end years of stalemate between the MTA and Amtrak over the $1 billion project.

It is not yet known when the project will become a reality.
