New Yorkers will have to spend a little more to get around the city if they plan on using a taxicab or other ride services.
As a way to ease congestion, the state will now start collecting a $2.50 fee on every taxicab ride below 96th Street.
The initiative was originally supposed to go into effect on Jan. 1 but drivers were able to get a judge to put a temporary block on the proposal.
The order has since been lifted and now riders of app-based vehicle services like Uber and Lyft could also see $2.75 added to their fares.
Some New Yorkers say they are still hoping something can be done to make the change less of a burden on passengers.
