New restaurant debuts in former home of Throggs Neck Clipper

A new restaurant has officially opened up shop on East Tremont Avenue in the space that was formerly occupied by Throggs Neck Clipper.
The Clipper closed in 2017 after 20 years of business. But HK Kitchen & Draft House is now serving up American cuisine like steaks, burgers and beer.
The owner is a local investor who grew up in the borough and realized the community was lacking a place like it. The space features a modern look, with TVs to watch sports games.
And former Clipper customers may recognize some familiar faces. HK Kitchen & Draft House is employing some former Clipper staffers, and the previous restaurant's owner is also a general manager at the new establishment.
Some neighbors had expressed concerns that the Clipper's replacement would be a rowdy nightspot, but the management says that's not their goal. They say their vision is to make it a family-oriented spot, and even it's name has a family meaning: H and K stand for the owner's daughters' names, Haylie and Kaylie.
